Profile of Shri P K Sinha, CMD MCL
Shri Prabhat Kumar Sinha has been assigned with the additional charge of Chairman cum Managing Director of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited w.e.f. 01.11.2020 in addition to the charge of CMD, NCL. He joined as CMD, NCL on 22nd December, 2017 and is functioning with ultimate responsibility of the company’s performance, people and ventures, including development and execution of company’s business strategies. Born in January 1962, Shri Sinha graduated in Mining Engineering from Raipur Engineering College, Raipur in the year 1982. He completed his post graduation in “Mine Planning & Design” from ISM, Dhanbad in the year 1988. Shri Sinha is a seasoned professional with 36 years of experience in Opencast and Underground mining activities encompassing Operational, Man, Material & Project Managements of Coal India Ltd.
Shri Sinha has worked as head of production unit in opencast and underground mines of SECL, WCL and NCL, with excellent track record. He has also worked in Science and Technology Department of CMPDIL.
Shri Sinha was appointed as Director (P&P), SECL on 3rd August, 2016 and during his one year and four months tenure, he has achieved physical possession of 752.459 Ha land, secured TOR for 08 mines and EC for one mine from MoEF&CC, secured Stage II clearance of 383 Ha of Forest Land and introduced Slope Stability Radars for monitoring of dump slopes in SECL.
Shri Sinha has represented Indian Coal Industry in the World Mining Congress at Poland in the year 2008 and at Istanbul (Turkey) during the year 2011. He also visited Sweden, Switzerland and Germany for training in Advanced Management Development Programme during the year 2014. He was a part of International MinExpo-2016 at Las Vegas, USA during September, 2016. He also has the honor of representing the Technology Mission, under the MOU between CIL/CMPDI and CISRO, Australia, during the period 16-25 June, 2017.
His competence is also expressed in his technical paper entitled “Dump Slope Monitoring at Jayant - the new perspective” presented at 4th Asian Mining Congress, held at Kolkata in the year 2012, technical paper entitled “Effect of production blast on dump stability in open pit mines” presented in the “FRAGBLAST-10” held in November, 2012 at New Delhi and technical paper entitled “Environmental Sustainability Analysis in SECL” - presented at NxGnMiFu2017 Conference - New Delhi during 15-17 February, 2017.
He is honored with many prestigious awards viz. Excellence in Environment Management, as Project Head, from MPCCB-Bhopal for the year 2010-11 and Best Mines Manager at HB Ghosh memorial award hosted by MGMI at Kolkata for 2 consecutive years (2012, 2013). He has a professional affiliation with Mining, Geological and metallurgical institute (MGMI) and Indian Mine Manager’s Association (IMMA).
Shri Sinha uses his multi-fold experience in the work to become an able strategist for steering the organization in the most profitable direction and for succeeding in crisis management. He executes his leadership skills through open communication, teamwork and a positive moral in the organization.
Profile of Shri O P Singh, D(T/OP) MCL
Shri Om Prakash Singh has taken over the charge of Director (Technical), Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a leading subsidiary of Coal India Limited, on 1st September, 2016.
Shri Singh is Bachelor of Engineering (Mining) from Ravishankar University, Raipur and holder of First Class Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency under the Mines Act from Directorate General of Mines Safety, Dhanbad. Shri Singh has also acquired Master degree in Business Administration (Marketing Management) and Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications. He comes with a rich work experience spanning 32 years in the fields of mine planning, production, management, supervision, direction and control of underground as well as open cast coal mines. He has worked with SECL/CMPDIL, for 32 years.
After joining Coal India Limited in August 1984, he rose rapidly and has handled various senior positions like General Manager of different Areas at SECL and heading different departments at Corporate Office i.e. Environment, Production and Planning.
He has also undergone training programme on project management and other general management courses.
Profile of Shri K R Vasudevan, D(F) MCL
He was born in Chennai on 17th July, 1962. He passed his Bachelor in Commerce (Hons) from Ravenshaw College, Cuttack with first class. He obtained his professional degree from the Institute of Cost Accountants of India in the year 1989 and also passed L.LB from Utkal University.
He comes with a rich work experience spanning more than three decades in various fields of Finance in different sectors such as State (Odisha State Electricity Board), public (Coal India Limited) and Private (Paradeep Phosphates Limited). It is worth mentioning that his experience covers three core industries of national economic importance (Power, Coal and Fertilizers).
From February 1982 to October 1987, he has worked in Talcher Thermal Power Station / Talcher Electricity Division under the erstwhile Orissa State Electricity Board. (Now under National Thermal power Corporation) in the areas of Revenue Accounting, Cost & Budget, MIS and Accounts finalization. He played a very crucial role in the exercise for reconciliation of long outstanding disputes culminating the signoff between OSEB and SECL. Undergone on the job training imparted by M/s. AF Ferguson Co. on the new accounting procedure of OSEB recommended by Central Electricity Authority.
From October 1987 to July 2008, he worked under South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) and Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) in different functional areas (Project Area and Corporate Office) in Costing, Treasury, and Accounts finalization. He was instrumental in computerization of Piece Rated wages and also instrumental in introducing e-payments in Mahanadi Coalfields Limited. As Head of the Corporate Treasury, he was responsible for investment of surplus funds.
In July, 2008 he joined Paradeep Phosphates Limited (PPL). Prior to re-joining MCL, he was working in PPL as HOD (Finance) in the Plant and Joint General Manager (Internal Audit) wherein he has played crucial role in post SAP implementation improvements in many areas, CAPEX monitoring, Contracts management. As Joint General Manager (Internal Audit), he was actively involved in implementing Enterprise Risk Management.
He was entrusted with the position of Director (Personnel) of MCL for around a year and Director (Finance) of Bharat Coking Coal Limited, Jharkhand for more than a month in 2019. He is also presently serving as the Director (Finance) of Central Coalfields Limited, Jharkhand since July 2021. Additionally, he is currently the Chairman of MNH Shakti Limited and MJSJ Coal Limited, subsidiaries of MCL. He has also donned the role of Chairman of CSR Sub-committee of MCL Board of Directors.
Profile of Shri Baban Singh, D(T/P&P) MCL
Shri Baban Singh graduated from Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad in the year 1985 and has obtained vast experiences while performing his duties and responsibilities in different capacities and grades in different Open Cast and Underground Mines of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) and South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL). Shri Singh has acquired MBA in HR in the year 2013 and gainfully utilized his knowledge in the field of Mining.
He participated in Advanced Management courses on the theme “Empowering Proven Leadership to Drive Strategic Renewal for sustainable Growth” by Coal India Limited at “Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad” in 2016 with international programme at SDA Bocconi School of Management comprising experimental learning through industry visit in Rome, Florence, Venice, Milano, Zurich, Paris and Amsterdam. Shri Singh has participated as Indian delegate in China Mining Congress in 2018 and interacted with Chinese manufacturers to assess their capability in the areas of HEMM & Underground machinery manufacturing for exploring avenue of technology transfer.
Shri Singh took over the charge of Director (Technical), Mahanadi Coalfields Limited on 29th April, 2020, thereby shouldering higher responsibilities for betterment of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited in particular and Coal India Limited in general / Indian nation as a whole.
Profile of Shri Keshav Rao, D(P) MCL
Shri Keshav Rao is an alumnus of I.I.T. Bombay and IIM, Ahmadabad. He also holds a PG diploma in HR. He started his career with a brief stint of one year in private sector followed by two years with Steel Authority of India Ltd. Thereafter he joined Indian Telecom Service where he served for about twenty six years. In his service career spanning over twenty nine years, he has worked in areas like projects, administration, procurement, IT implementation and marketing etc.
Besides being a telecommunication professional, he is well versed in HR and vigilance. He served as a Director in the Central Vigilance Commission, New Delhi from 2010 to 2015. As Director in CVC, he was closely associated with examination of vigilance matters of all organizations under coal ministry and assisted the commission in driving many vigilance reforms. He has also served as the Chief Vigilance Officer of four organizations under ministry of civil aviation viz. Pawan Hans Ltd., DGCA, IGRUA and Airport Authority of India.
Later as a General Manager (personnel) in BSNL he handled HR matters of around 50,000 executives. He was instrumental in resolution of many legal bottlenecks which facilitated an end to long pending cases leading to over 10,000 promotions within 3 months. He also contributed to formulation of a new promotion policy.
He has attended various training programmes/conferences in US, UK, France Austria and Portugal. He has delivered training courses in HR to international audiences in South Africa.
He served as an editor of the CVC’s newsletter Vigeye Vani. He headed two committees set up to examine delays in disciplinary proceedings across various government organizations and also was a member of the committee for drafting of vigilance manual released by CVC in 2017.
He also served as secretary to the Vigilance Study Circle Delhi NCR. He has been delivering lectures on various topics of HR and vigilance in several organizations during the last 8 years.
Shri Rao has taken over the charge of Director (Personnel), MCL on 18.12.2019.
